Official Journal C 045 , 10/02/1998 P. 0116
WRITTEN QUESTION E-1875/97 by Gianni Tamino (V) to the Commission (30 May 1997) Subject: Community laboratory (Decision 97/260/EC) With reference to Decision 97/260/EC ((OJ L 104, 22.4.1997, p. 31.)) of 2 April 1997 on the Community reference laboratory for bivalve mollusc diseases, will the Commission say: 1. whether experiments on animals will be scheduled or permitted for this purpose? 2. if so, whether acceptance of projects will be linked to compliance with the 50% reduction in the use of animals in experiments announced by the Commission in the fifth programme on the environment? Answer given by Mr Fischler on behalf of the Commission (24 June 1997) The functions and duties of the Community reference laboratory for diseases of bivalve molluscs are described in Annex B to Council Directive 95/70/EC introducing minimum Community measures for the control of certain fish diseases affecting bivalve molluscs ((OJ L 332, 30.12.1995. )). These functions and duties are related to the diagnosis of diseases affecting bivalve molluscs. These are based on histopathology and do not involve experiments with animals.
