Title: "Sostegno a metodi di produzione agricola finalizzati alla tutela della risorsa idrica - Avviso pubblico" (support for agricultural production methods designed to protect water resources - public notice)

Objective: Agri-environmental aid: following a major water crisis which hit Umbria in 2002/2003, the level of Lake Trasimeno fell dramatically. The regional authorities wish to take measures to safeguard water resources and allow a proper balance between agricultural production activities and the sound management and use of these resources, well before the lake reaches a danger level that would require a public order banning water extraction. The Region is therefore asking agricultural holdings to relinquish their rights to extract water from Lake Trasimeno and its tributaries and to adopt farming techniques which safeguard the level of the surface waters and aquifers of the Lake Trasimeno water catchment area. In particular, they are proposing the production of plants which do not require irrigation
