1. Resumption of the session
The sitting opened at 15.00.
2. Statements by the President
Murder of Piotr Stańczak
The President made a statement condemning the murder of the Polish engineer Piotr Stańczak by his abductors in Pakistan on 6 February 2009. The President expressed Parliament's sympathies with the victim's family and friends.
Parliament observed a minute's silence in memory of Piotr Stańczak.
Forest fires in Australia
The President made a statement on the recent forest fires in Australia, expressing Parliament's sympathies with the Australian people and in particular with the victims of the fires.
Baha'i community in Iran
The President called on the Iranian authorities to reconsider their case against seven Baha'i dignitaries imprisoned since May 2008.
Expulsion of Luis Herrero-Tejedor from Venezuela
The President protested against the expulsion by the Venezuelan authorities of Luis Herrero-Tejedor, Member of the European Parliament, who had been in Venezuela as an international observer of the constitutional referendum of 15 February 2009.

3. Approval of the Minutes of the previous sitting
The Minutes of the previous sitting were approved.

Sarah Ludford had made it known that she had been present at the sitting of 2 February 2009 but that her name was not on the attendance register.
4. Follow-up to a request for the defence of immunity
On 9 December 2008, Witold Tomczak had made a new request for the defence of his immunity and privileges in the context of a case pending before the district court of Ostrów Wielkopolski (Minutes of 02.09.2008, Item 12).
After the Committee on Legal Affairs had been asked to deliver an opinion on the matter, the Chair of that committee had communicated the committee's recommendation that this fourth request by Witold Tomczak be deemed inadmissible.
5. Verification of credentials
On a proposal from the JURI Committee, Parliament validated the mandates of Maria Berger, Călin Cătălin Chiriță, Daniel Petru Funeriu, Adrian Manole, Iosif Matula, Alexandru Nazare, Eva-Riitta Siitonen, Alin Lucian Antochi and Vasilica Viorica Dăncilă.
6. Interpretation of the Rules of Procedure
The President informed the House, under Rule 201(3), of the following interpretation of Rule 47 provided by the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, which had been consulted on the application of that provision:
‘When examining an international agreement under Rule 83, the procedure with associated committees set out in Rule 47 may not be applied in relation to the assent procedure under Rule 75.’
If this interpretation was not contested by a political group or by at least 40 Members (Rule 201(4)) before the Minutes of the current sitting were approved it would be deemed to have been adopted. Otherwise, the matter would be put to the vote in Parliament.
7. Corrigendum (Rule 204a)
The committee responsible had forwarded the following corrigendum to a text adopted by Parliament.
