Decision on the common position established by the Council with a view to adopting Directive 97/ /EC of the European Parliament and of the Council amending, as regards the maximum design speed of wheeled agricultural or forestry tractors, Council Directives 74/150/EEC, 74/151/EEC, 74/152/EEC, 74/346/EEC, 74/347/EEC, 75/321/EEC, 75/322/EEC, 76/432/EEC, 76/763/EEC, 77/311/EEC, 77/537/EEC, 78/764/EEC, 78/933/EEC, 79/532/EEC, 79/533/EEC, 80/720/EEC, 86/297/EEC, 86/415/EEC and 89/173/EEC (C4-0150/97 - 96/0129(COD))

The European Parliament,

- having regard to the common position of the Council, C4-0150/97 - 96/0129(COD),

- having regard to its opinion at first reading ( ((OJ C 20, 20.1.1997, p. 25.))) on the Commission proposal to Parliament and the Council, COM(96)0196( ((OJ C 186, 26.6.1996, p. 11.))),

- having regard to the amended Commission proposal, COM(97)0005( ((OJ C 95, 24.3.1997, p. 45.))),

- having regard to Article 189b(2) of the EC Treaty,

- having regard to Rule 68 of its Rules of Procedure,

- having regard to the recommendation for second reading of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and Industrial Policy (A4-0218/97),

1. Approves the common position;

2. Calls on the Council to adopt the act definitively, as soon as possible, in accordance with the common position;

3. Instructs its President to sign the act with the President of the Council pursuant to Article 191(1) of the EC Treaty;

4. Instructs its Secretary-General duly to sign the act and, in agreement with the Secretary-General of the Council, to have it published in the Official Journal;

5. Instructs its President to forward this decision to the Council and Commission.
