    3.   Approval of Minutes of previous sitting

The Minutes of the previous sitting were approved.

    4.   Corrigendum to the Minutes of 04.07.2005

In paragraph 3 of Item 6, ‘Membership of Parliament’, ‘Article 7(1)’ should read ‘Article 7(2)’.

    5.   Statement by the President

The President made a statement in which he mentioned the terrorist attacks, accidents and natural disasters that had caused such terrible suffering in various parts of the world during the summer, including Iraq, Latin America, Europe and the United States. He stated that in each case he had, on behalf of Parliament, sent messages of solidarity to the authorities of the countries affected. He added that that European Union had demonstrated its ability to take action in each case and pointed out that Parliament would soon have the opportunity to contribute to legislation to step up air safety.

Parliament observed a minute's silence in memory of the victims.

    6.   Announcement by the President (Members' Statute)

The President announced that, at its meeting of 18 July 2005, the Council had adopted the text on the Statute for Members of the European Parliament that Parliament had forwarded, and that the text could therefore be considered adopted. The President would soon sign the Statute, which would then be published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

    7.   Membership of Parliament

The Polish authorities had given notice of the appointment of Andrzej Tomasz Zapałowski to replace Filip Adwent as Member of Parliament with effect from 12.07.2005.

The President drew attention to the provisions of Rule 3(5).

    8.   Verification of credentials

On a proposal from the JURI Committee, Parliament validated the mandates of Giovanni Rivera and Jean-Pierre Audy.

    9.   Request for the waiver of parliamentary immunity

At its meeting of 13 July 2005, the Committee on Legal Affairs had considered a request for the waiver of Marco Pannella's parliamentary immunity in the context of legal proceedings pending before a court in Rome.

The Committee on Legal Affairs noted that Parliament, acting on a request from the Member concerned, had already taken a decision to uphold Mr Pannella's immunity and privileges on 10 February 2004. That decision had been sent to Italy's Permanent Representative, along with a request that the court in Rome be informed of the decision.

On a proposal from Klaus-Heiner Lehne, the rapporteur, the Committee on Legal Affairs had decided unanimously that the request for waiver of immunity was redundant as Parliament had already taken a decision on the matter, and had asked the President to inform the House and the Italian authorities accordingly.

    10.   Membership of committees and delegations

At the request of the PPE-DE Group, Parliament ratified the following appointments:

    AFET Committee: Jana Hybášková

DEVE Committee: Jürgen Zimmerling to replace Jana Hybášková

Delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries and the Arab Maghreb Union: Jean-Pierre Audy

Delegation for relations with the Gulf States, including Yemen: Jürgen Zimmerling

    11.   Signature of acts adopted under codecision

The President announced that, on Wednesday, he and the President of the Council would sign the following acts adopted under the codecision procedure pursuant to Rule 68:
