WRITTEN QUESTION E-0043/02 by Bárbara Dührkop Dührkop (PSE) to the Commission (23 January 2002) Subject: The ESF and training in minority languages Can the Commission say how much the European Social Fund spends on training in minority languages in the EU as a whole? Can it break down the figures by country and minority language, with particular reference to Spain? Answer given by Mrs Diamantopoulou on behalf of the Commission (22 February 2002) The Commission does not have the information required by the Honourable Member neither regarding languages used nor taught in European Social Fund (ESF)-funded programmes. As for language teaching it is only eligible for ESF financing if it helps improving the employability of the persons concerned.
