6. Qualification as standard amendment
The French authorities consider that the application meets the requirements of Regulations (EU) No 1308/2013 and (EU) 2024/1143.
The amendments to this product specification are standard amendments as defined in Article 24(4) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143.
The application for an amendment to the ‘Cheverny’ PDO does not involve any of the three situations constituting a Union amendment; specifically, it does not:
|
(a) |
include a change in the name or in the use of the name, or in the category of product or products designated by the geographical indication; |
|
(b) |
risk voiding the link to the geographical area; |
|
(c) |
entail further restrictions on the marketing of the product. |
The French authorities therefore consider that the application is for a standard amendment.
7. Description of the approved standard amendment(s)
1. Official Geographic Code
A reference to the 2022 Official Geographic Code has been added in relation to the geographical area and the area in immediate proximity.
This is a purely editorial change and does not alter the geographical area.
Points 6 ‘Demarcated geographical area’ and 9 ‘Other essential conditions (packaging, labelling, other requirements)’ of the single document have been amended in line with the product specification.
2. Agri-environmental provisions
A number of environmental provisions have been added:
|
— |
chemical weed control is permitted on an 80 cm strip underneath the row; |
|
— |
chemical weed control is prohibited on headlands. |
These amendments are intended to take better account of societal demands for less use of plant protection products and better care for the environment.
The single document has not been amended.

10. Description of the link(s)
The vineyards’ poor soils, which are primarily sandy or resting on a limestone substrate and are strongly affected by the action of the river Loire, together with the large forests nearby, which contribute to the coolness of the climate, are factors that have led to the planting of early varieties well suited to a climate that is difficult for grapes.
This climate contributes to a bouquet that harmoniously combines the different grape varieties:
|
— |
lively yet well-balanced white wines dominated by citrus, tropical fruit or white flower aromas; |
|
— |
well-balanced rosé wines with a certain fatness on the palate; they usually have notes of red fruit and spices; |
|
— |
red wines with aromas of red and black fruit, sometimes with spicy notes; young wines of this type are more delicate in structure, while older ones are more robust and may develop venison aromas. |
