    Notification of evidence of the formal qualifications of practitioners of dentistry and specialised dentistry

    Council Directive 78/686/EEC of 25 July 1978 concerning the mutual recognition of diplomas, certificates and other evidence of the formal qualifications of practitioners of dentistry, including measures to facilitate the effective exercise of the right of establishment and freedom to provide services, as amended by Directive 2001/19/EC, and in particular Article 23a thereof, stipulates that Member States shall notify the Commission of the laws, regulations or administrative provisions they adopt as regards the award of diplomas, certificates and other evidence of formal qualifications in the field covered by the Directive, and that the Commission shall publish an appropriate notice in the Official Journal of the European Union, listing the names adopted by the Member States for the training qualifications concerned and, where applicable, for the corresponding professional title.

    Since Italy and the Czech Republic have given notification of changes to the names for the training qualifications for practitioners of dentistry, and Greece and Italy have given notification of changes to the names for the training qualifications for practitioners of specialised dentistry, the lists in annex to Directive 78/686/EEC should be amended.

    Annex A to Directive 78/686/EEC, as amended by Directive 2001/19/EC and more recently by Annex II to the Act concerning the conditions of accession of the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Cyprus, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Hungary, the Republic of Malta, the Republic of Poland, the Republic of Slovenia and the Slovak Republic and the adjustments to the Treaties on which the European Union is founded, shall be amended as follows:

    (1)

    the name of the certificate accompanying the qualification for Italy is:

    ‘Diploma di abilitazione all'esercizio della professione di odontoiatra’,

    (2)

    the name of the diploma for the Czech Republic is:

    ‘Diplom o ukončení studia ve studijním programu zubní lékařství (doktor zubního lékařství, MDDr.)’.

    Annex B to Directive 78/686/EEC, as amended by Directive 2001/19/EC and more recently by Annex II to the Act concerning the conditions of accession of the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Cyprus, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Hungary, the Republic of Malta, the Republic of Poland, the Republic of Slovenia and the Slovak Republic and the adjustments to the Treaties on which the European Union is founded, shall be amended as follows:

    (1)

    under ‘1. Orthodontics’, the title for Italy is:

    ‘Diploma di specialista in Ortognatodonzia’, awarded by ‘Università’,

    (2)

    under ‘2. Oral surgery’, the title for Greece is:

    ‘Τίτλoς Οδovτιατρικής ειδικότητας της Γvαθoχειρoυργικής (up to 31 December 2002)’,

    (3)

    under ‘2. Oral surgery’, the title for Italy is:

    ‘Diploma di specialista in Chirurgia Orale’, awarded by ‘Università’.
