COMMISSION STAFF WORKING DOCUMENT EVALUATION of Commission Regulation (EC) N° 906/2009 of 28 September 2009 on the application of Article 81(3) of the Treaty to certain categories of agreements, decisions and concerted practices between liner shipping companies (consortia)
- Initiative summary:
- EU law generally bans agreements between companies that restrict competition. However, the Consortia Block Exemption Regulation (Commission Regulation 906/2009) allows, under certain conditions, liner shipping operators to cooperate for the provision of joint services. The Consortia Block Exemption Regulation is set to expire on 25 April 2024. The purpose of this initiative is to evaluate its functioning since its latest prolongation in 2020.
