Treaty establishing the European Community (Amsterdam consolidated version) Article 189 The European Parliament, which shall consist of representatives of the peoples of the States brought together in the Community, shall exercise the powers conferred upon it by this Treaty. The number of Members of the European Parliament shall not exceed seven hundred.
