Article 232 of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the CARIFORUM States, of the one part, and the European Community and its Member States, of the other part, establishes a CARIFORUM-EC Consultative Committee tasked with assisting the Joint CARIFORUM-EC Council to promote dialogue and cooperation between representatives of organisations of civil society, including the academic community, and social and economic partners.
The Consultative Committee shall foster social and civil dialogue through consultation on all aspects of social, economic, environmental and development issues as they arise in the context of implementing the CARIFORUM-EU-EPA.
The European side of the Consultative Committee will be composed of 15 members — 9 members representing socio-economic actors, 4 members representing NGOs and 2 representing the academic community.

Academic institutions are invited to express their interest in being included in a roster of organisations to be involved in the CARIFORUM-EC Consultative Committee (hereinafter the ‘Committee’). Inclusion in the roster is open to all academic institutions, including independent research institutions, fulfilling the requirements set out in the Council Decision of 16 November 2009 (appended). |
2. |
In order to be registered for the roster, academic institutions will need to provide information on how they fulfil such requirements, especially with respect to their location and their expertise. |
3. |
Academic institutions expressing their interest in being included in the roster should also indicate whether one of their representatives would be interested in serving as a standing member of the Committee. In this case, they will have to provide information with respect to the expertise the proposed person has in the areas covered by the Agreement, as well as a detailed curriculum vitae. This information will be made available to all academic institutions having registered for the roster. The academic institutions included in the roster shall subsequently be called upon to endorse the candidature of two standing members of the Committee from those having expressed such interest. Standing members’ travel expenses and daily allowance related to participation in Consultative Committee meetings shall be covered. |
4. |
Academic institutions included in the roster shall be kept informed of the Committee's activities by the Committee secretariat and will be able to participate as observers in the working of the Committee at their own cost. Modalities for participation will be set out in the Committee's Rules of Procedure. |
5. |
All applications for registration must be made using the registration form on the website http://spportal/cariforum-eu to be received no later than 7 p.m. (Brussels local time) on 1 December 2011. |
6. |
An acknowledgement of receipt of registration for the roster shall be sent by e-mail. |
