1. Resumption of the session
The sitting opened at 17.05.
2. Approval of the minutes of the previous sitting
The minutes of the previous sitting were approved.
3. Statements by the President
ThePresident welcomed the adoption of the euro by Latvia on 1 January 2014.
The President spoke of the numerous storms in Europe in recent weeks and said there would be a debate on the subject during one of the February part-sessions. He expressed Parliament's solidarity with the victims of the storms.
The President spoke of the UN conference on the future of Syria would open in Geneva on 22 January 2014. He stressed the importance of this conference.
The President commented on press reports of accusations made by the Romanian Prime Minister, Victor Ponta, against Elmar Brok. He said that, if these accusations had indeed been made, they were deplorable.

The deadline for tabling amendments was set for Tuesday 14 January 2014 at 12 noon.
The vote would be held on Wednesday 15 January 2014 at 12 noon.
5. Composition of Parliament
The Danish authorities had given notice of the election of Claus Larsen-Jensen to replace Dan Jørgensen as Member of Parliament with effect from 13 December 2013.
The Polish authorities responsible had given notice of the election of Zbigniew Zaleski and Tadeusz Edward Ross to replace Lena Kolarska-Bobińska and Rafał Trzaskowski with effect from 17 December 2013.
In accordance with Article 7(1) of the Act concerning the election of the members of the European Parliament by direct universal suffrage and Rule 4(1) and (4), Parliament took note of the election of Claus Larsen-Jensen with effect from 13 December 2013, and of Zbigniew Zaleski and Tadeusz Edward Ross with effect from 17 December 2013.
Under Rule 3(2), until such time as their credentials had been verified or a ruling had been given on any dispute, and provided that they had previously made a written declaration stating that they did not hold any office incompatible with that of Member of the European Parliament, Claus Larsen-Jensen, Zbigniew Zaleski et Tadeusz Edward Ross would take their seats in Parliament and on its bodies and would enjoy all the rights attaching thereto.
6. Composition of political groups
Godfrey Bloom was no longer a member of the EFD Group and was sitting with the non-attached Members with effect from 9 January 2014.
7. Composition of committees and delegations
The President had received the following requests for appointments from the PPE, S&D and Verts/ALE Groups:

8. Corrigendum(Rule 216)
The committee responsible had forwarded the following corrigendum to a text adopted by Parliament:

Pursuant to Rule 216(4), this corrigendum would be deemed approved unless, within 24 hours, a request was made by a political group or at least 40 Members that it be put to the vote.
The corrigendum would be available on the Séance en direct website during the current part-session.
