COMMISSION DECISION

of 2 March 1984

amending the list of third countries from which Member States authorize imports of bovine animals, swine and fresh meat

THE COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN

COMMUNITIES,

Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community,

Having regard to Council Directive 72/462/EEC of 12 December 1972 on health and veterinary inspection problems upon importation of bovine animals and swine and fresh meat from third countries (1), as last amended by Directive 83/91/EEC (2), and in particular Article 3 thereof,

Whereas Directive 83/91/EEC has extended the scope of the basic Directive 72/462/EEC in that for the purposes of Article 3 fresh meat of cloven-hoofed wild animals and wild solipeds, in so far as this concerns permitted importation from certain third countries of origin, is now included;

Whereas it is necessary to amend the Annex to Council Decision of 21 December 1976 drawing up a list of third countries from which the Member States authorize imports of bovine animals, swine and fresh meat (3), as last amended by Commission Decision 79/560/EEC of 4 May 1979 (4), so as to take account, in respect both of animals and fresh meat, of the criteria set out in Article 3 (2) of the Directive;

Whereas Belize may be considered as complying with these criteria as regards fresh meat of bovine animals and domestic solipeds and must therefore be added to the list;

Whereas, at the present time, the Member States do not authorize the importation of fresh meat of wild solipeds; whereas, therefore, the list should be extended solely to include meat from wild cloven-hoofed animals;

Whereas, while respecting the limitations arising from the adoption of the list, imports of meat of wild cloven-hoofed animals shall continue to be subject to national provisions in respect of health and veterinary inspection; in so far as they are not already subject to any Community health protection measures;

Whereas the measures provided for in this Decision are in accordance with the opinion of the Standing Veterinary Committee,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

The Annex to Decision 79/542/EEC is hereby replaced by the Annex to this Decision.

Article 2

This Decision is addressed to the Member States.
