Framework Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation between the EU and its Member States, of the one part, and Malaysia, of the other

Council Decision (EU) 2022/1987 on the signing, on behalf of the European Union (EU), of the Framework Agreement with Malaysia

WHAT IS THE AIM OF THE AGREEMENT AND THE DECISION?

The framework agreement aims to:

  • strengthen the partnership between the parties;
  • deepen and enhance cooperation on issues of mutual interest, reflecting shared values and common principles.

Decision (EU) 2022/1987 authorises the signing of the agreement on behalf of the European Union (EU).

KEY POINTS

The agreement is divided into titles covering different areas of cooperation:

A joint committee, with representatives of both parties, oversees the implementation of the agreement and the fulfilment of its objectives.

ENTRY INTO FORCE

The agreement was initialised by the two parties on 6 April 2016 and will enter into force once it is ratified by the EU Member States and concluded by the EU, as well as ratified by Malaysia.
