    Explanatory Notes to the Combined Nomenclature of the European Communities

    Pursuant to Article 9(1)(a), second indent of Council Regulation (EEC) No 2658/87 of 23 July 1987 on the tariff and statistical nomenclature and on the Common Customs Tariff (1), the Explanatory Notes to the Combined Nomenclature of the European Communities (2) are amended as follows:

    In the paragraph ‘1102 20 10 and 1102 20 90’ the following text is inserted after the existing text:

    ‘These subheadings include also maize flour described as “masa flour”, which is obtained by the “nixtamalization” method that is characterised by the cooking and soaking of maize grains in a calcium hydroxide solution and subsequent drying and grinding.

    Any additional processing, such as roasting, shall however lead to the exclusion of such a product from heading 1102 (generally, Chapter 19).’

    In the paragraph ‘1103 13 10 and 1103 13 90’ the following text is inserted after the existing text:

    ‘These subheadings include also groats and meal of maize described as “masa flour”, which is obtained by the “nixtamalization” method that is characterised by the cooking and soaking of maize grains in a calcium hydroxide solution and subsequent drying and grinding.

    Any additional processing, such as roasting, shall however lead to the exclusion of such a product from heading 1103 (generally, Chapter 19).’
