The European Commission Is recruiting a (m/f):
Director for the Directorate-General for Economics and Financial Affairs
in charge of directing the secretariat of the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC) and the Economic Policy Committee (EPC) in Brussels.
The Economic and Financial Committee was set up by the EC Treaty (Article 114(2)). It shall, among other tasks, keep under review the economic and financial situation of the Member States and of the Communities, give advice to the Council of Ministers and to the Commission, and contribute to the preparation of the work of the Council on Economic and Monetary Union matters.
The Director is responsible for defining the secretariat strategy within the framework of the EFC/EPC mandates, managing efficiently the human and financial resources of the secretariat, and assuring the quality of its contributions. He represents the secretariat at EFC/EPC, Council and Eurogroup meetings.
The main working language of the DG is English. Excellent knowledge of English will be considered an advantage.
Qualifications required
Candidates must have:

a university degree in economics; a Ph.D would be considered an advantage; |
— |
excellent knowledge and competence in the macro- and micro-economic fields; in-depth knowledge of the Community mechanisms for economic policy coordination; a proven management ability, and the capacity to head discussions effectively; |
— |
solid management, and excellent negotiation and representation skills. |
Applicants must:
1. |
be a citizen of one of the EU Member States; |
2. |
hold a university degree that gives access to undertake doctoral studies; |
3. |
have at least 15 years postgraduate professional experience at a level to which the qualifications referred to above give admission. At least five years of that professional experience must have been gained at high management level; |
4. |
have a thorough knowledge of one of the EU official languages, and an adequate knowledge of another of these languages. |
Independence and declaration of interests
Candidates are required to confirm their willingness to make a declaration of their commitment to act independently in the public interest and a declaration of any interests which might be considered prejudicial to their independence.
Appointment and conditions of employment
The Director will be selected and appointed by the Commission according to its selection and recruitment procedures. A shortlist of candidates will be called for an interview by the Commission's Consultative Committee on Appointments.
Salaries and conditions of employment are those laid down for officials occupying a function corresponding to the basic post of Director of the European Communities.
Applicants should note the requirement under the new Staff Regulations for all new staff to complete successfully a nine-month probationary period.
This appointment will be made in Brussels.
