Notification of titles of qualification in specialised medicine

Council Directive 93/16/EEC of 5 April 1993(1) to facilitate the free movement of doctors and the mutual recognition of their diplomas, certificates and other evidence of formal qualifications, as amended by Directive 2001/19/EC(2), and particularly Article 42a thereof foresees that Member States shall notify the Commission of the laws, regulations or administrative provisions they adopt as regards the award of diplomas, certificates and other evidence of formal qualifications in the field covered by this Directive. The Commission shall publish an appropriate notice in the Official Journal of the European Communities, listing the names adopted by the Member States for the training qualifications concerned and, where applicable, for the corresponding professional title.

The Republic of Ireland has notified 16 designations to be amended for that Member State in the list of titles of training courses in specialised medicine.

Annex C of Directive 93/16/EEC, as amended by Directive 2001/19/EC, is hereby amended as follows:

1. under neurological surgery, the entry for Ireland should read:

"neurosurgery";

2. under ophthalmology, the entry for Ireland should read:

"ophthalmic surgery";

3. under orthopaedics, the entry for Ireland should read:

"trauma and orthopaedic surgery";

4. under pathological anatomy, the entry for Ireland should read:

"histopathology";

5. under radiotherapy, the entry for Ireland should read:

"radiation oncology";

6. under immunology, the entry for Ireland should read:

"immunology (clinical and laboratory)";

7. under plastic surgery, the entry for Ireland should read:

"plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery";

8. under thoracic surgery, the entry for Ireland should read:

"thoracic surgery";

9. under general haematology, the entry for Ireland should read:

"haematology (clinical and laboratory)";

10. under venereology, the entry for Ireland should read:

"genito-urinary medicine";

11. under radiology, the entry for Ireland should read:

"radiology";

12. under geriatrics, the entry for Ireland should read:

"geriatric medicine";

13. under communicable diseases, the entry for Ireland should read:

"infectious diseases";

14. under community medicine, the entry for Ireland should read:

"public health medicine";

15. under accident and emergency medicine, the entry for Ireland should read:

"emergency medicine";

16. under clinical neurophysiology, the entry for Ireland should read:

"clinical neurophysiology".
