No 157/2002

of 6 December 2002

amending Annex I (Veterinary and phytosanitary matters) to the EEA Agreement

THE EEA JOINT COMMITTEE,

Having regard to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, as amended by the Protocol adjusting the Agreement on the European Economic Area, hereinafter referred to as "the Agreement", and in particular Article 98 thereof,

Whereas:

(1) Annex I to the Agreement was amended by Decision of the EEA Joint Committee No 114/2002 of 27 September 2002(1).

(2) Commission Decision 2001/881/EC of 7 December 2001 drawing up a list of border inspection posts agreed for veterinary checks on animals and animal products from third countries and updating the detailed rules concerning the checks to be carried out by the experts of the Commission(2) is to be incorporated into the Agreement.

(3) Decision 2001/881/EC repeals Commission Decision 97/778/EC(3), which is incorporated into the Agreement and which is consequently to be deleted from the Agreement.

(4) This Decision is not to apply to Liechtenstein,

HAS DECIDED AS FOLLOWS:

Article 1

Part 1 of Chapter I of Annex I to the Agreement shall be amended as specified in the Annex to this Decision.

Article 2

The text of Decision 2001/881/EC in the Icelandic and Norwegian languages, to be published in the EEA Supplement to the Official Journal of the European Communities, shall be authentic.

Article 3

This Decision shall enter into force on 7 December 2002 provided that all the notifications under Article 103(1) of the Agreement have been made to the EEA Joint Committee(4).

Article 4

This Decision shall be published in the EEA section of, and in the EEA Supplement to, the Official Journal of the European Union.

ANNEX to Decision of the EEA Joint Committee No 157/2002

Part 1 of Chapter I of Annex I to the Agreement shall be amended as specified below: The text of point 39 (Commission Decision 97/778/EC) in Part 1.2 shall be replaced by the following:

32001 D 0881: Commission Decision 2001/881/EC of 7 December 2001 drawing up a list of border inspection posts agreed for veterinary checks on animals and animal products from third countries and updating the detailed rules concerning the checks to be carried out by the experts of the Commission (OJ L 326, 11.12.2001, p. 44).

This act applies also to Iceland for the areas covered by the specific acts to which reference is made in paragraph 2 of the Introductory Part.

The provisions of this Decision shall, for the purpose of the Agreement, be read with the following adaptation:
