Protection of cetaceans
This Regulation introduces measures restricting imports into the Community of cetacean products.
ACT
Council Regulation (EEC) No 348/81 of 20 January 1981 on common rules for imports of whales or other cetacean products.
SUMMARY
The introduction into the Community of cetacean products to be used for commercial purposes is prohibited.
An import licence is required for the introduction of products used for other purposes. These include:
The Member States are responsible for issuing import licences.
The list of products subject to an import licence may be extended.
This Regulation has been incorporated in Council Regulation (EC) No 338/97 (see below under "related acts").

Regulation (EC) No 338/97 of 9 December 1996 on the protection of species of wild fauna and flora by regulating trade therein [Official Journal L 61 of 3.3.1997]. To conserve endangered species of wild fauna and flora, this Regulation controls trade in such species by imposing conditions on the importation, exportation or re-exportation thereof and on their movement within the European Union, in accordance with the CITES Convention.
