Communication from the Commission on the description of certain FAO areas, sub-areas and divisions used for the purpose of fishery statistics and regulations (85/C 335/02)

The Annex to this communication provides a description of the FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations) fishery statistical areas, sub-areas and divisions in the Atlantic (except the Northeast Atlantic), the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, the Antarctic and the Indian Ocean to which reference is made in the regulations concerning the Community's fishery policy.

ANNEX Description of certain FAO areas and sub-areas and divisions used for the purpose of fishery statistics and regulations

I. West Atlantic

Area 31 (western central Atlantic)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the east coast of the United States at latitude 35°00' N due east to longitude 42°00' W ; thence due north to latitude 36°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 40°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 5°00' N ; thence due west to the coast of French Guyana ; thence in a northwesterly direction along the coasts of South America, Central America and the United States to the point of departure.

Sub-area 31.4 (commonly known as the West Indies sub-areas)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 28°00' N and longitude 79°30' W due east to longitude 55°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 15°00' N ; thence due west to longitude 80°00' W ; thence due north to latitude 20°00' N, thence due west to longitude 86°00' W ; thence due north to latitude 24°00' N, thence due east to longitude 80°00' W ; thence due north to latitude 25°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 79°30' W ; thence due north to the point of departure.

Division 31.4.2 (commonly known as the West Indies)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the south coast of Cuba at longitude 80°00' W due south to latitude 20°00' N ; thence due west to longitude 86°00' W ; thence due north to latitude 24°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 80°00' W ; thence due north to latitude 25°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 79°30' W ; thence due north to latitude 28°00' N ; thence due cast to longitude 55°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 15°00' N ; thence due west to longitude 80°00' W ; thence due north to latitude 20°00' N ; thence due east to the southeast coast of Cuba.

Sub-area 31.10 (commonly known as Venezuela)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the north coast of Colombia at longitude 71°08' W due north to latitude 15°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 59°30' W ; thence due south to the coast of Guyana ; thence in a northwesterly direction along the coasts of Guyana, Venezuela and Colombia to the point of departure.

Division 31.10.3 (commonly known as the east coast of Venezuela)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Venezuela at longitude 68°00' W due north to latitude 15°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 62°00' W ; thence due south to the coast of Venezuela ; thence in a westerly direction along the coast of Venezuela to the point of departure.

Division 31.10.4 (commonly known as Paria)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Venezuela at longitude 62°00' W due north to latitude 15°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 59°30' W ; thence due south to the coast of Guyana ; thence in a northwesterly direction along the coasts of Guyana and Venezuela to the point of departure.

Sub-area 31.11 (commonly known as Guyana)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Guyana at longitude 59°30' W due north to latitude 15°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 40°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 5°00' N ; thence due west to the coast of French Guyana ; thence in a northwesterly direction along the coasts of French Guyana, Surinam and Guyana to the point of departure.

Area 41 (Southwest Atlantic)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of French Guyana at latitude 5°00' N due east to longitude 30°00' W ; thence due south to the Equator ; thence due east to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 50°00' S ; thence due west to longitude 50°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 60°00' S ; thence due west to longitude 70°00' W ; thence due north to the coast of Tierra del Fuego ; thence eastwards around the island of Tierra del Fuego to a point on its north coast at longitude 69°27' W ; thence due north to the coast of Chile ; thence in a northerly direction along the east coast of Latin America to the point of departure.

Sub-area 41.1

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of French Guyana at latitude 5°00' N due east to longitude 30°00' W ; thence due south to the Equator ; thence due east to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 20°00' S ; thence due west to the coast of Brazil ; thence in a northerly direction along the east coast of Latin America to the point of departure.

Division 41.1.1 (commonly known as the Amazonian division)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of French Guyana at latitude 5°00' N due east to longitude 40°00' W ; thence due south to the north coast of Brazil ; thence in a westerly direction along the coasts of Brazil and French Guyana to the point of departure.

II. Eastern central Atlantic

Area 34 (eastern central Atlantic)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Morocco at 5°36' W due north to the Spanish coast (isthmus of Punta Marroqui) ; thence due west to a point at latitude 36°00' N and longitude 40°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 5°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 30°00' W, thence due south to the Equator ; thence due east to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 6°00' S ; thence due east to longitude 12°00' E ; thence in a southeasterly direction to a point on the coast of Zaire at latitude 6°04'36" S and longitude 12°19'48" E ; thence in a northerly direction across the mouth of the River Congo and along the west coast of Africa to the point of departure.

Sub-area 34.1 (northern sub-area)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Morocco at longitude 5°36' W due north to the coast of Spain (isthmus of Punto Marroqui) ; thence due west to a point at latitude 36°00' N and longitude 20°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 19°00' N ; thence due east to the coast of Mauritania ; thence in a northerly direction along the west coast of Africa to the point of departure.

Division 34.1.1 (commonly known as the Moroccan coast)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Morocco at longitude 5°36' W due north to the Spanish coast (isthmus of Punta Marroqui) ; thence due west to a point at latitude 36°00' N and longitude 13°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 29°00' N ; thence in a southwesterly direction to a point at latitude 26°00' N and longitude 16°00' W ; thence due east to the coast of the Spanish Sahara ; thence in a northeasterly direction along the west coast of Africa to the point of departure.

Division 34.1.2 (commonly known as the Canary Islands and Madeira)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 36°00 'N and longitude 13°00' W due west to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 26°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 16°00' W ; thence in a northeasterly direction to a point at latitude 29°00' N and longitude 13°00' W ; thence due north to the point of departure.

Division 34.1.3 (commonly known as the Saharan coast)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of the Spanish Sahara at latitude 26°00' N due west to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 19°00' N ; thence due east to the coast of Mauritania ; thence in a northerly direction along the west coast of Africa to the point of departure.

Sub-area 34.2 (northern oceanic sub-area)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 36°00' N and longitude 20°00' W due west to longitude 40°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 20°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due north to the point of departure.

Sub-area 34.3 (southern sub-area)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Mauritania at latitude 19°00' N due west to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due north to latitude 20°00' N ; thence due west to longitude 30°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 10°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due south to the equator ; thence due east to longitude 3°00' E ; thence due south to latitude 6°00' S ; thence due east to longitude 12°00' E ; thence in a southeasterly direction to a point on the coast of Zaire at latitude 6°04'36" S and longitude 12°19'48" E ; thence in a northerly direction across the mouth of the River Congo and along the west coast of Africa to the point of departure.

Division 34.3.1 (commonly known as the Cape Verde coast)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Mauritania at latitude 19°00' N due west to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 9°00' N ; thence due east to the coast of Sierra Leone ; thence in a northwesterly direction along the west coast of Africa to the point of departure.

Division 34.3.2 (commonly known as the Cape Verde Islands)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 20°00' N and longitude 20°00' W due west to longitude 30°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 10°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due north to the point of departure.

Division 34.3.3 (commonly known as Sherbro)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Sierra Leone at latitude 9°00' N due west to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due south to the Equator ; thence due east to longitude 8°00' W ; thence due north to the coast of Liberia ; thence in a northwesterly direction along the west coast of Africa to the point of departure.

Division 34.3.4 (commonly known as the western Gulf of Guinea)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Liberia at longitude 8°00' W due south to the Equator ; thence due east to longitude 3°00' E ; thence due north to the coast of Nigeria ; thence in a westerly direction along the west coast of Africa to the point of departure.

Division 34.3.5 (commonly known as the central Gulf of Guinea)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Nigeria at longitude 3°00' E due south to the Equator ; thence due east to the coast of Gabon ; thence in a northerly direction along the west coast of Africa to the point of departure.

Division 34.3.6 (commonly known as the southern Gulf of Guinea)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Gabon at the Equator due west to longitude 3°00' E ; thence due south to latitude 6°00' S ; thence due east to longitude 12°00' E ; thence in a southeasterly direction to a point on the coast of Zaire at latitude 6°04'36" S and longitude 12°19'48" E ; thence in a northerly direction across the mouth of the River Congo and along the west coast of Africa to the point of departure.

Sub-area 34.4 (southern oceanic sub-area)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 20°00' N and longitude 30°00' W due west to longitude 40°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 5°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 30°00' W ; thence due south to the Equator ; thence due east to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 6°00' S ; thence due east to longitude 3°00' E ; thence due north to the Equator ; thence due west to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due north to latitude 10°00' N ; thence due west to longitude 30°00' W ; thence due north to the point of departure.

Division 34.4.1 (commonly known as the southwest Gulf of Guinea)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the Equator at longitude 3°00' E due west to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 6°00' S ; thence due east to longitude 3°00' E ; thence due north to the point of departure.

Division 34.4.2 (southwest oceanic division)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 20°00' N and longitude 30°00' W due west to longitude 40°00' W ; thence due south to latitude 5°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 30°00' W ; thence due south to the Equator ; thence due east to longitude 20°00' W ; thence due north to latitude 10°00' N ; thence due west to longitude 30°00' W ; thence due north to the point of departure.

III. Mediterranean and Black Sea

Area 37 (commonly known as the Mediterranean and Black Sea)

All maritime waters in the Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea bounded, to the west, by a line running from a point on the coast of Morocco at longitude 5°36' W due north to the coast of Spain (isthmus of Punta Marroqui) and, to the southeast, by the northern entrance to the Suez Canal.

Sub-areas 37.1, 37.2 and 37.3 : western Mediterranean

All maritime waters in the Mediterranean Sea bounded, to the west, by a line running from a point on the coast of Morocco at longitude 5°36' W due north to the coast of Spain (isthmus of Punta Marroqui) and, to the southeast, by a line running from Ras el Tib (37°08' N, 11°00' E) in a northeasterly direction to Trapani (38°02' N, 12°32' N) ; thence in an easterly direction along the north and east coasts of Sicily to a point on the east coast of Sicily at latitude 38°00' N ; thence across the Straits of Messina due east to the southwest coast of Italy.

Sub-area 37.1 (commonly known as the Balearics)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Morocco at longitude 5°36' W due north to the coast of Spain (isthmus of Punta Marroqui) ; thence in a northeasterly direction along the coast of Spain to the frontier between France and Spain ; thence in a southeasterly direction to a point at latitude 41°20' N and longitude 8°00' E ; thence due south to latitude 38°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 8°37' E ; thence due south to the frontier between Algeria and Tunisia ; thence in a westerly direction along the coast of North Africa to the point of departure.

Sub-area 37.2 (commonly known as the Gulf of Lions)

The waters bounded by a line running from the frontier between France and Italy in a southeasterly direction to a point at latitude 41°20' N and longitude 8°00' E ; thence in a northwesterly direction to the frontier between France and Spain ; thence in a northeasterly direction along the coast of France to the point of departure.

Sub-area 37.3 (commonly known as Sardinia)

The waters bounded by a line running from the frontier between France and Italy in an easterly direction along the west coast of Italy to a point at latitude 38°00' N ; thence due west to the east coast of Sicily ; thence in a northerly direction along the east and north coasts of Sicily to Trapani (38°02' N, 12°32' E) ; thence in a southwesterly direction to Ras el Tib (37°08' N, 11°00' E) ; thence in a westerly direction along the north coast of Tunisia to a point on the frontier between Algeria and Tunisia at longitude 8°37' E ; thence due north to latitude 38°00' N ; thence due west to longitude 8°00' E ; thence due north to latitude 41°20' N ; thence in a northwesterly direction to the point of departure.

Sub-areas 37.4 and 37.5 : central Mediterranean

All the maritime waters in the Mediterranean Sea bounded, to the west, by a line running from Ras el Tib (37°08' N, 11°00' E) in a northeasterly direction to Trapani (38°02' N, 12°32' E) ; thence in an easterly direction along the north and east coasts of Sicily to a point on the east coast of Sicily at latitude 38°00' N ; thence across the Straits of Messina due east to the southwest coast of Italy and bounded, to the east, by a line running from the northern bank of the Corinth Canal across the said Canal and in a southerly direction along the east coast of the Peloponnese to a point at longitude 23°00' E ; thence due south to latitude 34°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 25°00' E ; thence due south to the coast of Libya.

Sub-area 37.4 (commonly known as the Adriatic Sea)

The waters bounded by a line running from Testa del Gargano (41°49' N, 16°12' E) on the east coast of Italy in a northwesterly direction along the east coast of Italy then down the west coast of Yugoslavia to the frontier between Albania and Yugoslavia ; thence in a westerly direction to the point of departure.

Sub-area 37.5 (commonly known as the Ionian Sea)

The waters bounded by a line running from Ras el Tib (37°08' N, 11°00' E) in a northeasterly direction to Trapani (38°02' N, 12°32' E) ; thence in an easterly direction along the north and east coasts of Sicily to a point on the east coast of Sicily at latitude 38°00' N then across the Straits of Messina due east to the southwest coast of Italy ; thence in a southeasterly direction along the south and east coasts of Italy to Testa del Gargano (41°49' N, 16°12' E) ; thence in an easterly direction to the frontier between Albania and Yugoslavia ; thence in a southerly direction along the coasts of Albania and Greece to the Corinth Canal ; then across the Corinth Canal and along the east coast of the Peloponnese to a point at longitude 23°00' E ; thence due south to latitude 34°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 25°00' E ; thence due south to the coast of Libya ; thence in a westerly direction along the coast of North Africa to the point of departure.

Sub-areas 37.6, 37.7 and 37.8 : eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea

The waters bounded, to the west, by a line running from the north bank of the Corinth Canal across the said Canal and in a southerly direction along the east coast of the Peloponnese to a point at longitude 23°00' E ; thence due south to latitude 34°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 25°00' E ; thence due south to the coast of Libya and, to the southeast, by the northern entrance to the Suez Canal.

Sub-area 37.6 (commonly known as the Aegean Sea)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the south coast of the Peloponnese at longitude 23°00' E in an easterly direction along the south and east coasts of the Peloponnese to the Corinth Canal ; thence across the Corinth Canal and along the east coast of Greece and the north coast of Turkey to Cape Helles (40°02' N, 26°12' E) ; then across the Dardanelles to Kumkale (40°00' N, 26°13' E) ; thence in a southerly direction along the west coast of Turkey to a point at longitude 29°00' E ; thence due south to latitude 34°00' N ; thence due west to longitude 23°00' E ; thence due north to the point of departure.

Sub-area 37.7 (commonly known as the Levant)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Turkey at longitude 29°00' E in an easterly direction along the east coast of the Mediterranean to the Suez Canal ; thence across the northern entrance to the Suez Canal and along the coast of North Africa to a point at longitude 25°00' E ; thence due north to latitude 34°00' N ; thence due east to longitude 29°00' E ; thence due north to the point of departure.

Sub-area 37.8 (commonly known as the Black Sea)

The waters bounded by a line running from Cape Helles (40°02' N, 26°12' E) in an easterly direction along the coast of the Black Sea to Kumkale (40°00' N, 26°13' E) ; thence across the Dardanelles to the point of departure.

IV. Indian Ocean

Area 51 (Western Indian Ocean)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the east coast of India at latitude 10°00' N due east to longitude 85°00' E ; thence due south to latitude 5°00' N ; thence due west to longitude 80°00' E ; thence due south to latitude 50°00' S ; thence due west to longitude 30°00' E ; thence due north to the coast of the Republic of South Africa ; thence in a northeasterly direction along the east coast of Africa to the northern entrance to the Suez Canal ; thence in a southeasterly direction along the east coast of the Red Sea ; thence round the Arabian Peninsula and along the coasts of Iran, Pakistan and India to the point of departure.

Sub-area 51.6 (commonly known as Madagascar and Mozambique Channel)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Tanzania at latitude 10°28' S due east to longitude 45°00' E ; thence due north to latitude 10°00' S ; thence due east to longitude 55°00' E ; thence due south to latitude 30°00' S ; thence due west to longitude 40°00' E ; thence due north to the coast of Mozambique ; thence in a northerly direction along the coasts of Mozambique and Tanzania to the point of departure.

Sub-area 51.7 (oceanic sub-area)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 10°00' S and longitude 55°00' E due east to longitude 80°00' E ; thence due south to latitude 50°00' S ; thence due west to longitude 40°00' E ; thence due north to latitude 30°00' S ; thence due east to longitude 55°00' E ; thence due north to the point of departure.

V. Antarctica

Area 48 (Atlantic, Antarctica)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at longitude 70° W on the coast of Antarctica across the George VI Sound to a point at longitude 70° W on the south coast of Alexander Island ; thence along the east coast of this island to a point on the northeast coast at longitude 70° W ; thence due north to latitude 60° S ; thence due east to longitude 50° W ; thence due north to latitude 50° S ; thence due east to longitude 30° E ; thence due south to the coast of Antarctica ; thence in a westerly direction along the coast of Antarctica to the point of departure.

Sub-area 48.1 (commonly known as the Peninsular sub-area)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at longitude 70° W on the coast of Antarctica across the George VI Sound to a point at longitude 70° W on the south coast of Alexander Island ; thence along the east coast of this island to a point on the northeast coast at longitude 70° W ; thence due north to latitude 60° S ; thence due east to longitude 50° W ; thence due south to latitude 65° S ; thence due west to a point on the east coast of Antarctica at latitude 65° S ; thence in a northeasterly and then southwesterly direction along the coast of Antarctica to the point of departure.

Sub-area 48.2 (commonly known as South Orkney)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 64° S and longitude 50° W to a point at latitude 57° S and longitude 50° W ; thence due east to longitude 30° W ; thence due south to latitude 64° S ; thence due west to the point of departure.

Sub-area 48.3 (commonly known as South Georgia)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 57° S and longitude 50° W to a point at latitude 50° S and longitude 50° W ; thence due east to longitude 30° W ; thence due south to latitude 57° S ; thence due west to the point of departure.

Sub-area 48.4 (commonly known as South Sandwich)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 64° S and longitude 30° W to a point at latitude 50° S and longitude 30° W ; thence due east to longitude 20° W ; thence due south to latitude 64° S ; thence due west to the point of departure.

Sub-area 48.5 (commonly known as Weddell)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 65° S on the east coast of Antarctica due east to longitude 50° W ; thence due north to latitude 64° S ; thence due east to longitude 20° W ; thence due south to the coast of Antarctica ; thence in a southwesterly and then northwesterly direction along the coast of Antarctica to the point of departure.

Sub-area 48.6 (commonly known as Bouvet)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at longitude 20° W on the coast of Antarctica due north to latitude 50° S ; thence due east to longitude 30° E ; thence due south to the coast of Antarctica ; thence in a westerly direction along the coast of Antarctica to the point of departure.

Sub-areas 58.4 to 58.7 (Indian Ocean, Antarctica)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at longitude 30° E on the coast of Antarctica due north to latitude 45° S ; thence due east to longitude 80° E ; thence due south to latitude 55° S ; thence due east to longitude 150° E ; thence due south to the coast of Antarctica thence in a westerly direction along the coast of Antarctica to the point of departure.

Sub-area 58.4 (commonly known as Enderby-Wilkes)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at longitude 30° E on the coast of Antarctica due north to latitude 50° S ; thence due east to longitude 60° E ; thence due south to latitude 55° S ; thence due east to longitude 150° E ; thence due south to the coast of Antarctica ; thence in a westerly direction along the coast of Antarctica to the point of departure.

Division 58.4.1

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at longitude 80° E on the coast of Antarctica due north to latitude 55° S ; thence due east to longitude 150° E ; thence due south to the coast of Antarctica ; thence in a westerly direction along the coast of Antarctica to the point of departure.

Division 58.4.2

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at longitude 30° E on the coast of Antarctica due north to latitude 62° S ; thence due east to longitude 80° E ; thence due south to the coast of Antarctica thence in a westerly direction along the coast of Antarctica to the point of departure.

Division 58.4.3

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 62° S and longitude 60° E to a point at latitude 55° S and longitude 60° E ; thence due east to longitude 80° E ; thence due south to latitude 62° S ; thence due west to the point of departure.

Division 58.4.4

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 62° S and longitude 30° E to a point at latitude 50° S and longitude 30° E ; thence due east to longitude 60° E ; thence due south to latitude 62° S ; thence due west to the point of departure.

Sub-area 58.5 (commonly known as Kerguelen)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 55° S and longitude 60° E to a point at latitude 45° S and longitude 60° E ; thence due east to longitude 80° E ; thence due south to latitude 55° S ; thence due west to the point of departure.

Sub-area 58.6 (commonly known as Crozet)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 50° S and longitude 40° E to a point at latitude 45° S and longitude 40° E ; thence due east to longitude 60° E ; thence due south to latitude 50° S ; thence due west to the point of departure.

Sub-area 58.7 (commonly known as Marion-Edward)

The waters bounded by a line running from a point at latitude 50° S and longitude 30° E to a point at latitude 45° S and longitude 30° E ; thence due east to longitude 40° E ; thence due south to latitude 50° S ; thence due west to the point of departure.

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Antarctica at longitude 150° E to a point at latitude 60° S and longitude 150° E ; thence due east to longitude 70° W ; thence due south to a point at longitude 70° W on the northeast coast of Alexander Island ; thence along the east coast of this island to a point on the south coast at longitude 70° W ; thence across the George VI Sound to a point on the coast of Antarctica at longitude 70° W ; thence due west along the coast of Antarctica to the point of departure.

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Antarctica at longitude 150° E to a point at latitude 60° S and longitude 150° E ; thence due east to longitude 170° W ; thence due south to the coast of Antarctica ; thence in a westerly direction along the coast of Antarctica to the point of departure.

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Antarctica at longitude 170° W to a point at latitude 60° S and longitude 170° W ; thence due east to longitude 105° W ; thence due south to the coast of Antarctica ; thence in a westerly direction along the coast of Antarctica to the point of departure.

The waters bounded by a line running from a point on the coast of Antarctica at longitude 105° W to a point at latitude 60° S and longitude 105° W ; thence due east to longitude 70° W ; thence due south to a point on the northeast coast of Alexander Island at longitude 70° W ; thence along the east coast of this island to a point on the south coast at longitude 70° W ; thence across the George VI Sound to a point on the coast of Antarctica at longitude 70° W ; thence due west along the coast of Antarctica to the point of departure.
