The Commission is planning to grant subsidies totalling the indicative amount of EUR 250 000 for the organisation of various conferences to promote energy and transport policy and, in particular, the policy priorities fixed in the 2005 Work Programme.

The specific topics selected for 2005 are as follows:

—

rights and protection of passengers using the various modes of transport and energy users;

—

energy demand management in transport and energy, in particular energy efficiency;

—

trans-European networks and infrastructure charging;

—

pan-European transport and energy networks between the European Union and its new neighbours;

—

safety and security in energy and transport;

—

development of energy and transport markets (trends, competition, constraints, economic aspects);

—

promotion of renewable energies;

—

technological innovations in the transport and energy sectors;

—

the challenges of nuclear power in the years to come (security, safety, waste management, dismantling, research, etc.).
