COMMUNICATION FROM THE COMMISSION TO THE COUNCIL AND THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT - Adaptation of the ceiling of own resources and of the ceiling for appropriations for commitments following the entry into force of Decision 2000/597/EC, Euratom 1. According to Article 2(7) of Council Decision 2000/597/EC, Euratom of 29 September 2000 [1] and for the purposes of applying that Decision "GNP shall mean GNI for the year at market prices as provided by the Commission in application of the ESA 95 in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 2223/96" [2]. According to Recital 7 of the Council Decision it is appropriate to adapt the ceiling of own resources as well as the ceiling for appropriations for commitments expressed as a percentage of the Communities' GNP in order to maintain unchanged the amount of financial resources put at the disposal of the Communities. 3. According to Article 3(1) and 3(2) of the Council Decision the Commission shall calculate the new percentages, expressed in two decimal places, in December 2001 on the basis of the following formulas: Maximum own resources = >REFERENCE TO A GRAPHIC> Maximum appropriations for commitments = >REFERENCE TO A GRAPHIC> On the basis of the latest information provided by Eurostat (see also tables in the annex) the new percentage ceilings will amount to: Maximum own resources (in per cent of the total GNP's of the Member States) = >REFERENCE TO A GRAPHIC> >REFERENCE TO A GRAPHIC> Maximum appropriations for commitments (in per cent of the total GNP's of the Member States) = >REFERENCE TO A GRAPHIC> 5. According to Article 3(3) of the Council Decision the Commission shall communicate to the budgetary authority the new ceilings before 31 December 2001.
