These excavations were conducted without the consent of Ukraine, the internationally recognised sovereign over the peninsula. Andrey Polyakov has publicly supported the Institute’s continuing role in the occupied region, stating that work in Chersonesos and other areas is ongoing and part of a broader agenda of more than 40 excavations planned for 2024. His leadership of IHMC RAS has not only enabled these illegal excavations but has also contributed to the cultural appropriation and institutional normalisation of Russian presence in Crimea. Andrey Polyakov supports the Russian Federation’s policies aimed at consolidating its occupation of Crimea. In 2022, the Mariupol Drama Theatre was bombed by the Russian forces, and later was restored, renamed, reorganised and financed with the help of the Russian institutions. This theatre is not only used to spread Russian culture in the occupied regions of Ukraine under Russian control, but also to establish the propaganda narrative that this theatre was destroyed by the Ukrainian Nazis. As the General Director, Igor Solonin actively participates in the activities of the theatre and in attracting funding from Russian-appointed government representatives in the occupied Donetsk region. Timur Yunusov expressed support for Vladimir Putin’s candidacy in the presidential elections and participated in his election campaigns. He was one of Vladimir Putin’s trusted representatives during one of his presidential campaigns. USC supplies Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs) to the Russian Armed Forces which use them in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. In addition, Oleg Kosolapov is the director of onboard radio-electronic equipment at Russian Helicopters, a company which produces military helicopters used by the Russian Armed Forces in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Therefore, Oleg Yuryevich Kosolapov is supporting actions which threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine. Alabuga SEZ hosts manufacturing facilities including SuperCam, JSC Albatros, JSC AviatestAero that assemble UAVs. Those facilities are part of a Russian state-backed program and have been set up with assistance from Iran in the training of staff and supply of material in order to assemble military drones for use in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The UAVs (Shaheds/Gerans) produced in the SEZ are used by the Russian army in Ukraine. Therefore, JSC Alabuga is associated with JSC Albatros, JSC AviatestAero and SuperCam Unmanned Systems Group. Furthermore, Timur Shagivaleev is also involved in the management of the Alabuga Start and the Alabuga Polytech programs, which are used to attract workers, including from third countries, to the UAV production facilities. Due to the nature of his position as General Director of JSC Alabuga, Timur Shagivaleev is associated with JSC Albatros, JSC AviatestAero and SuperCam Unmanned Systems Group and therefore he is supporting the production of Shahed/Geran-2 UAVs, which are being used on a large scale in the illegal Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
