Prior notification of a concentration

(Case COMP/M.7162 — INEOS/SSG Solvents Business)

(Text with EEA relevance)

2014/C 97/07

1.

On 24 March 2014, the Commission received a notification of a proposed concentration pursuant to Article 4 of Council Regulation (EC) No 139/2004 (1) by which the undertaking INEOS Investments S.A. (Switzerland) belonging to the INEOS Group (‘INEOS’, Switzerland) acquires within the meaning of Article 3(1)(b) of the Merger Regulation control of the whole of the Solvents Business (‘SSG Solvents Business’, Germany) of Sasol Solvents Germany GmbH (‘Sasol’, Germany) by way of purchase of assets.

2.

The business activities of the undertakings concerned are:

INEOS is a global manufacturer of petrochemicals, speciality chemicals and oil products, including industrial ethanol, propylene and ethylene,

Sasol’s SSG Solvents Business is a German manufacturer of a variety of oxygenated solvents, including isopropanol, methyl ethyl ketone, industrial ethanol and certain other chemicals (including alkyl chlorides, aluminium alcoholates, diisopropyl ether and secondary butanol).

3.

On preliminary examination, the Commission finds that the notified transaction could fall within the scope of the Merger Regulation. However, the final decision on this point is reserved.

4.

The Commission invites interested third parties to submit their possible observations on the proposed operation to the Commission.

Observations must reach the Commission not later than 10 days following the date of this publication.
