New national side of euro coins intended for circulation

2012/C 313/04

Image

National side of the new commemorative 2-euro coin intended for circulation and issued by the Vatican City

Euro coins intended for circulation have legal tender status throughout the euro area. For the purpose of informing the public and all parties who handle the coins, the Commission publishes a description of the designs of all new coins (1). In accordance with the Council conclusions of 10 February 2009 (2), euro-area Member States and countries that have concluded a monetary agreement with the Community providing for the issuing of euro coins are allowed to issue commemorative euro coins intended for circulation, provided that certain conditions are met, particularly that only the 2-euro denomination is used. These coins have the same technical characteristics as other 2-euro coins, but their national face features a commemorative design that is highly symbolic in national or European terms.

Issuing country: The Vatican City

Subject of commemoration: The Seventh World Families’ Meeting

Description of the design: The inner ring features a family with the Cathedral of Milan. The inscription ‘VII INCONTRO MONDIALE DELLE FAMIGLIE’ surrounds the design, forming a semi-circle which is complemented at the upper right side by the name of the issuing state ‘CITTÁ DEL VATICANO’. The year 2012 appears on the right side and the name of the artist ‘G. TITOTTO’ followed by the indication of the engraver ‘LDS Inc’ is displayed on the left side. The mintmark ‘R’ appears at the bottom of the design, between the mother and the child.

The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Number of coins to be issued:

Date of issue: October 2012

(1)  See OJ C 373, 28.12.2001, p. 1 for the national faces of all the coins issued in 2002.

(2)  See the conclusions of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council of 10 February 2009 and the Commission Recommendation of 19 December 2008 on common guidelines for the national sides and the issuance of euro coins intended for circulation (OJ L 9, 14.1.2009, p. 52).

Notice concerning a request pursuant to Article 30 of Directive 2004/17/EC

Request from a contracting entity

2012/C 313/10

On 3 October 2012, the Commission received a request under Article 30(5) of Directive 2004/17/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 31 March 2004 coordinating the procurement procedures of entities operating in the water, energy, transport and postal services sectors (1). The first working day following receipt of the request is 4 October 2012.

This request, made by Magyar Posta, concerns domestic parcel logistic services carried out in Hungary. Article 30 provides that the Directive does not apply where the activity in question is directly exposed to competition on markets to which access is not limited. These conditions are evaluated solely for the purposes of Directive 2004/17/EC and are without prejudice to the application of competition rules.

The Commission has a period of three months, as from the working day referred to above, within which to take a decision on this request. The period therefore ends on 4 January 2013.

This period may be extended by three months. Notice of any such extension must be published.

Pursuant to the second subparagraph of Article 30(6), further requests concerning domestic parcel logistic services in Hungary, submitted before the period opened for this request expires, will not be regarded as subject to new procedures and will be dealt with as part of this request.
