WHAT IS THE AIM OF THE REGULATION?

The regulation requires that GNI and gross domestic product at market prices (GDP)* are defined in accordance with the ESA 2010.

Regarding the inventories provided by EU countries, the Commission will verify the sources, their uses and methods, including by carrying out information visits.

The Commission will adopt:

European Statistical System Committee (ESSC)

Eurostat is assisted and advised by the ESSC, a committee composed of representatives from EU countries and chaired by the Commission.

Report

By 1 January 2023, the Commission will report to the European Parliament and the Council on the regulation’s application.

KEY TERMS

Gross national income at market prices (GNI): the total primary income receivable by resident economic entities: compensation of employees, taxes on production and imports less subsidies, property income (receivable less payable), gross operating surplus and gross mixed income.

GNI equals GDP minus primary income payable by resident economic entities to non-resident economic entities plus primary income receivable by resident economic entities from the rest of the world.
