extending the mandate of the Head of Mission of the European Union Advisory Mission in support of Security Sector Reform in Iraq (EUAM Iraq) (EUAM Iraq/1/2021)

THE POLITICAL AND SECURITY COMMITTEE,

Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular the third paragraph of Article 38 thereof,

Having regard to Council Decision (CFSP) 2017/1869 of 16 October 2017 on the European Union Advisory Mission in support of Security Sector Reform in Iraq (EUAM Iraq) (1), and in particular Article 9(1) thereof,

Whereas:

Pursuant to Article 9(1) of Decision (CFSP) 2017/1869, the Political and Security Committee (PSC) is authorised, in accordance with the third paragraph of Article 38 of the Treaty, to take the relevant decisions for the purpose of exercising the political control and strategic direction of the European Union Advisory Mission in support of Security Sector Reform in Iraq (EUAM Iraq), including the decision to appoint a Head of Mission.

(2)	On 11 December 2019, the PSC adopted Decision (CFSP) 2019/2188 (2), appointing Mr Christoph BUIK as Head of Mission of EUAM Iraq from 1 January 2020 to 17 April 2020.

(3)	On 7 April 2020, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2020/513 (3), extending the mandate of EUAM Iraq until 30 April 2022.

(4)	On 16 April 2020, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2020/530 (4), extending the mandate of Mr Christoph BUIK as Head of Mission of EUAM Iraq from 18 April 2020 until 17 April 2021.

(5)	The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy has proposed to extend the mandate of Mr Christoph BUIK as Head of Mission of EUAM Iraq from 18 April 2021 until 30 April 2022,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

The mandate of Mr Christoph BUIK as Head of Mission of the European Union Advisory Mission in support of Security Sector Reform in Iraq (EUAM Iraq) is hereby extended from 18 April 2021 to 30 April 2022.

Article 2

This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its adoption.

It shall apply from 18 April 2021.
