New national side of euro coins intended for circulation

Euro coins intended for circulation have legal tender status throughout the euro area. The Commission publishes all new euro-coin designs with a view to informing all parties required to handle coins in the course of their work as well as the public at large (1). In accordance with the Council conclusions of 8 December 2003 (2), euro-area Member States and those countries that have concluded a Monetary Agreement with the Community providing for the issuing of euro coins are allowed to issue certain quantities of commemorative euro coins for circulation on condition that not more than one new coin design is issued per country per year and that only the 2-euro denomination is used. These coins have the technical features of normal euro coins intended for circulation, but bear a commemorative design on the national side.

Issuing country: Monaco

Subject of commemoration: 25th anniversary of the death of Princess Grace

Description of the design: On the inner part of the coin there is an effigy of Princess Grace in profile facing to the left. ‘MONACO’, followed by the mint mark, the year ‘2007’ and the engraver's mark, is engraved in an arc in the bottom right of the inner part. The name of the artist (R.B.BARON) is engraved under the Princess's hair. The coin's outer ring depicts the twelve stars of the European flag.

Number of coins to be issued: 20 001 max.

Approximate date of issue: July 2007

Edge lettering: 2 ★★, repeated six times, alternately upright and inverted.
