The European Parliament,

- having regard to the proposal for a Council Decision, COM(96)0466 - 96/0236(ACC),

- having regard to Article 113, in conjunction with Article 228(2), first sentence, of the EC Treaty,

- having regard to the draft Interim Agreement initialled by the Commission, COM(96)0466,

- having been consulted by the Council (10521/96 - C4-0082/97),

- having regard to Rule 90(7) of its Rules of Procedure,

- having regard to the report of the Committee on External Economic Relations and the opinions of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Security and Defence Policy and the Committee on Budgets (A4-0304/97),

1. Approves the conclusion of the agreement;

2. Instructs its President to forward this opinion to the Council and Commission and the governments and parliaments of the Member States and of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
