A4-0061/97 Proposal for a Council Regulation setting up a specific measure in favour of cephalopod producers permanently based in the Canary Islands (COM(96)0528 - C4- 0684/96 - 96/0254(CNS)) The proposal was approved with the following amendments: (Amendment 1) Article 1(3) >Original text> 3. The transitional period during which the aid provided for in paragraph 1 applies shall begin on 1 January 1996 and terminate on 31 December 1997. >Text following EP vote> 3. This aid shall be continued for as long as it is required to maintain the competitiveness of cephalopod producers permanently based in the Canary Islands. >Original text> The duration and amount of the aid may be reduced in accordance with the procedure referred to in Article 2 if the factors on which the grant of the aid referred to in paragraph 1 is based are changed. >Text following EP vote> The duration and amount of the annual aid may be adjusted to take account of developments in the economic situation in the sector in accordance with the procedure laid down in Article 32 of Regulation (EEC) No 3759/92 on the common organization of the market in fishery and aquaculture products. Legislative resolution embodying Parliament's opinion on the proposal for a Council Regulation setting up a specific measure in favour of cephalopod producers permanently based in the Canary Islands (COM(96)0528 - C4-0684/96 - 96/0254(CNS)) (Consultation procedure) The European Parliament, - having regard to the Commission proposal to the Council, COM(96)0528 - 96/0254(CNS) ((OJ C 373, 10.12.1996, p. 10.)), - having been consulted by the Council pursuant to Article 43 of the EC Treaty (C4-0684/96), - having regard to Rule 58 of its Rules of Procedure, - having regard to the report of the Committee on Fisheries and the opinion of the Committee on Budgets (A4-0061/97), 1. Approves the Commission proposal, subject to Parliament's amendments; 2. Calls on the Council to notify Parliament should it intend to depart from the text approved by Parliament; 3. Asks to be consulted again should the Council intend to make substantial modifications to the Commission proposal; 4. Instructs its President to forward this opinion to the Council and Commission.
