DECISION No 2/2008 OF THE JOINT COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE SET UP BY THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY AND THE SWISS CONFEDERATION ON TRADE IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS
of 24 June 2008
concerning the adaptation of Annexes 1 and 2
(2008/692/EC)
THE JOINT COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE,
Having regard to the Agreement between the European Community and the Swiss Confederation on trade in agricultural products (the Agreement), and in particular Article 11 thereof,
Whereas:
(1) |
The Agreement entered into force on 1 June 2002 and contains amongst others Annexes 1 and 2 that concern bilateral trade concessions granted respectively by the Swiss Confederation and by the European Community (hereinafter referred to as the Parties). |
(2) |
On 1 January 2007 the European Union was enlarged by the accession of Bulgaria and Romania. The Parties agreed to adapt the bilateral trade concessions on the principle that the trade flows in accordance with the preferences granted under the bilateral arrangements between the new Member States to the European Union and Switzerland should be mutually maintained in substance. The Parties adopted, on an autonomous and transitional basis, measures to ensure continuity of trade flows in the interim period. |
(3) |
The Parties also agreed to consolidate in the Agreement the bilateral preferential trade flows in sausages and certain meat products, |
HAS DECIDED AS FOLLOWS:
Article 1
Annexes 1 and 2 to the Agreement shall be replaced respectively by Annexes 1 and 2 to this Decision.
Article 2
This Decision shall enter into force on 1 January 2010.
Done at Brussels, 24 June 2008.
For the Joint Committee on Agriculture
The Head of the Community Delegation
Aldo LONGO
The Head of the Swiss Delegation
Jacques CHAVAZ
The Secretary of the Joint Committee on Agriculture
