COUNCIL DECISION (CFSP) 2023/1181

of 16 June 2023

amending Decision (CFSP) 2021/1694 in support of the universalisation, implementation and strengthening of the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW)

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,

Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article 28(1) and Article 31(1) thereof,

Having regard to the proposal from the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy,

Whereas:

(1)

On 21 September 2021, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2021/1694 (1).

(2)

Decision (CFSP) 2021/1694 is to expire 24 months after the conclusion of the agreement referred to in Article 3(3) thereof, i.e. on 8 October 2023.

(3)

On 23 January 2023, the implementing agency, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), requested a no-cost extension of the implementation period for the projects referred to in Article 1 of Decision (CFSP) 2021/1694 (‘the projects’) until 8 May 2024. Such an extension would allow UNODA to complete the projects, the implementation of which has been negatively impacted by recruitment delays.

(4)

The extension of the implementation period for the projects until 8 May 2024 does not have any implication as regards financial resources.

(5)

Decision (CFSP) 2021/1694 should therefore be amended accordingly,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

In Article 5 of Decision (CFSP) 2021/1694, the second paragraph is replaced by the following:

‘This Decision shall expire on 8 May 2024.’.

Article 2

This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its adoption.

Done at Luxembourg, 16 June 2023.

For the Council

The President

E. SVANTESSON
