Hearing of the Member concerned in procedures on immunity (Interpretation of Rule 9(6) of the Rules of Procedure)

European Parliament decision of 17 April 2023 concerning the possibility of hearing the Member concerned remotely in procedures on immunity (interpretation of Rule 9(6) of the Rules of Procedure) (2023/2032(REG))

The European Parliament,

having regard to the letter of 27 March 2023 from the Chair of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs,

having regard to Rule 236 of its Rules of Procedure,

Decides to append the following interpretation to Rule 9(6) of the Rules of Procedure:

‘Rule 216(1), second subparagraph, does not prevent the committee responsible from allowing the remote participation of the Member concerned in an immunity hearing in camera, in accordance with the principles the committee laid down pursuant to Rule 9(13), if that Member is, owing to exceptional and objective circumstances, unable to attend the hearing physically.’

Instructs its President to forward this decision to the Council and the Commission, for information.
