Prinos CO2 Storage Facility

Legal basis

The Prinos CO2 Storage project is part of the Greek Recovery and Resilience Plan as approved by the Council of the European Union in July 2021 and its annex (ref 1) as below), as amended in December 2023 and its annex (ref 2 as below). The PRINOS CO2 Storage project is regulated by L. 4964/2022, article 173 (ref 3 as below) and Joint Ministerial Decision 48416/2037/Ε.103 (ref 4 as below). Also by the Decision 14577/29.09.2022 of the general government body Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA) (ref 5 as below), and the Ministerial Decision 9845/512/27.01.2023 (ref 6 as below) The national legal basis for the granting of aid will be adopted following the issuing of the EC state aid decision, therefore no aid will be granted beforehand. It is also noted that according to the provisions regulating the granting of aid under the Greek Recovery and Resilience Fund (RRF), no aid can be granted unless it has been previously considered compatible under the applicable state aid rules.
