- Initiative summary:
- EU legislation allows the temporary storage of liquid mercury waste in dedicated landfills until 31 December 2022, pending treatment for final disposal. Considering that significant stocks of liquid mercury waste awaiting proper treatment still exist in the EU, the Commission intends to extend the temporary storage period until 31 December 2025. This will ensure the sound management of those remaining stocks of liquid mercury waste
