- Under EU legislation on the restriction of hazardous substances, certain substances are not allowed to be used in electrical and electronic equipment. Economic operators can request exemptions for uses where the substance cannot (yet) be replaced. The Commission assessed three exemption requests concerning the use of cadmium in quantum dots in LED lighting and displays.
