Improving environmental protection through criminal law
Proposal for a DIRECTIVE OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL on the protection of the environment through criminal law and replacing Directive 2008/99/EC
- Initiative summary:
- The recent evaluation of existing EU rules showed that they did not entirely meet its objectives. Although progress was achieved in creating an EU legal framework of environmental criminal offences, a review of those rules is necessary to improve their effectiveness. The revision will mainly address the scope, sanction levels, the involvement of organised crime, judicial cooperation, and the collection of statistical data in the Member States.
