Protecting pregnant workers and new mothers
The directive aims to protect the health and safety of women in the workplace when pregnant1 or after they have recently given birth2, and women who are breastfeeding3.
It has applied since and had to become law in the Member States by .
Council Directive 92/85/EEC of on the introduction of measures to encourage improvements in the safety and health at work of pregnant workers and workers who have recently given birth or are breastfeeding (tenth individual Directive within the meaning of Article 16(1) of Directive 89/391/EEC) (OJ L 348, , pp. 1–7).
Successive amendments to Directive 92/85/EEC have been incorporated into the original text. This consolidated version is of documentary value only.
