I have the honour to refer to the Exchange of Letters complementing the Agreement between New Zealand and the European Economic Community on trade in mutton, lamb and goatmeat and comprising an understanding relevant to the first subparagraph of clause 2 of that Agreement, signed on 12 July 1984, and the need to fix the quantities referred to in this Exchange of Letters for 1987 and 1988.

In accordance with the Exchange of Letters, and after consultation with the Community through the Commission, I confirm that:

- for France the quantities for 1987 and 1988 shall be as fixed for the preceding year plus 10 %, and

- for Ireland the quantities for 1987 and 1988 will be fixed at an appropriate time by the procedure provided for in clause 10 of the Agreement.

I propose that this letter and your letter confirming that its contents are acceptable to the Community will constitute an understanding forming an integral part of the Agreement between New Zealand and the European Economic Community.
