Proposal for a Council Decision amending Decision 93/383/EEC of 14 June 1993 on reference laboratories for the monitoring of marine biotoxins (96/C 331/08) (Text with EEA relevance) COM(96) 464 final - 96/0234(CNS)

Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Community, and in particular Article 43 thereof,

Having regard to the proposal from the Commission,

Having regard to the opinion of the European Parliament,

Having regard to the opinion of the Economic and Social Committee,

Whereas the Annex to Council Decision 93/383/EEC of 14 June 1993 on reference laboratories for the monitoring of marine biotoxins (1) establishes the list of national reference laboratories designated by each Member State for the monitoring of marine biotoxins;

Whereas Decision 93/383/EEC does not include a procedure for speedy revision of its Annex;

Whereas the laboratory of the Torry Research Station, Aberdeen, designated in 1993 by the United Kingdom as its national reference reference laboratory for the monitoring of marine biotoxins, is suspending its activities;

Whereas the United Kingdom has designated the Marine Laboratory, Aberdeen, as its national reference laboratory for the monitoring of marine biotoxins;

Whereas the Annex to Decision 93/383/EEC should be amended accordingly; whereas provision should be made for a procedure for the revision of this Annex by the Commission on a request from a Member State,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

Council Decision 93/383/EEC of 14 June 1993 on reference laboratories for the monitoring of marine biotoxins is hereby amended as follows:

- the following Article 6 is inserted after Article 5:

'Article 6 The Commission shall amend the Annex to this Decision where necessary following notification by a Member State of a change of national reference laboratory for the monitoring of marine biotoxins.` - Article 6 becomes Article 7.

Article 2

The Annex to Council Decision 93/383/EEC is hereby amended as follows:

'United Kingdom:

- Marine Laboratory PO Box 101, Victoria Road UK-Aberdeen AB11 9DB`

Article 3

This Decision is addressed to the Member States.
