On 23 January 2007, the Commission received a notification of a proposed concentration pursuant to Article 4 of Council Regulation (EC) No 139/2004 (1) by which the undertaking Crédit Agricole S.A (‘Crédit Agricole’, France) acquires within the meaning of Article 3(1)(b) of the Council Regulation control of the whole of the undertakings Cassa di Risparmio di Parma e Piacenza S.p.A. (‘Intesa’, Italy) by way of purchase of shares and transfer of retail business.

    2.

The business activities of the undertakings concerned are:

for Crédit Agricole: multinational banking and financial services,

for Cariparma: banking and insurance services in Italy,
