on the appointment of the Head of Mission of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (*1) (EULEX KOSOVO) (EULEX KOSOVO/2/2026)
THE POLITICAL AND SECURITY COMMITTEE,
Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article 38, third paragraph, thereof,
Having regard to Council Joint Action 2008/124/CFSP of 4 February 2008 on the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo, EULEX KOSOVO (1), and in particular Article 12(2) thereof,
Whereas:

Pursuant to Article 12(2) of Joint Action 2008/124/CFSP, the Political and Security Committee (PSC) is authorised, in accordance with Article 38, third paragraph, of the Treaty, to take the relevant decisions for the purpose of exercising the political control and strategic direction of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX KOSOVO), including the decision to appoint a Head of Mission. |

On 5 June 2025, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2025/1161 (2), amending Joint Action 2008/124/CFSP and extending the mandate of EULEX KOSOVO from 15 June 2025 to 14 June 2027. |

On 13 May 2026, the PSC adopted Decision (CFSP) 2026/1178 (3), extending the mandate of Mr Giovanni Pietro BARBANO as Head of Mission of EULEX KOSOVO from 15 June 2026 to 25 June 2026. |

On 8 July 2026, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy proposed the appointment of Mr Antero Alfarela OLIVEIRA LOPES as Head of Mission of EULEX KOSOVO from 10 August 2026 to 14 June 2027. |

A decision on the appointment of Mr Antero Alfarela OLIVEIRA LOPES as Head of Mission of EULEX KOSOVO from 10 August 2026 to 14 June 2027 should be taken, |
HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:
Article 1
Mr Antero Alfarela OLIVEIRA LOPES is appointed as Head of Mission of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX KOSOVO) from 10 August 2026 to 14 June 2027.
Article 2
This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its adoption.
