***** EXCHANGE OF LETTERS relating to clause 2 of the Arrangement between the European Economic Community and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay on trade in mutton and lamb Letter No 1 Sir, With reference to the Arrangement between the European Economic Community and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay on trade in mutton and lamb, signed on 14 October 1980, and in particular to the discussions which have taken place between the two parties in accordance with clause 14 of the said Arrangement, I have the honour to inform you that the Uruguayan authorities have recorded their agreement to consider France and Ireland as sensitive areas taking into account the temporary factors indicated by the European Economic Community. To that end, the competent Uruguayan authorities undertake to avoid any change in the traditional export trade flows in Uruguayan products covered by that Arrangement to France and Ireland during the period 1 April 1985 to 31 March 1988. In addition, the Government of Uruguay understands that this undertaking shall only be valid provided that the voluntary restraint Agreement remains in force without amendment. I should be grateful if you would kindly acknowledge receipt of this letter. Please accept, Sir, the assurance of my highest consideration.
