By means of Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2021/879 (2), the Council appointed Ms Petra HIELKEMA as Chairperson of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) for a period of five years from 1 September 2021.

Regulation (EU) No 1094/2010 provides that the term of office of the Chairperson of EIOPA (the ‘Chairperson’) is to be five years and is able to be extended once. That Regulation also provides that, during the nine months preceding the end of the five-year term, the Board of Supervisors of EIOPA (the ‘Board of Supervisors’) is to conduct an evaluation and that, taking that evaluation into account, the Council, acting on a proposal from the Board of Supervisors and with the assistance of the Commission, is able to extend the Chairperson’s term.

The first five-year term of office of Ms Petra HIELKEMA is due to expire on 31 August 2026.

In accordance with Regulation (EU) No 1094/2010, the Board of Supervisors conducted an evaluation, assessing the results achieved by Ms Petra HIELKEMA during her first term of office as Chairperson, the manner in which those results were achieved and the EIOPA’s duties and requirements for the coming years.

The evaluation concluded that the performance of Ms Petra HIELKEMA was satisfactory and that her continued leadership would contribute to the effective fulfilment of the EIOPA’s mandate.

The Board of Supervisors has accordingly recommended that the term of office of Ms Petra HIELKEMA as Chairperson be extended for a second term.

Having regard to the evaluation by and the recommendation of the Board of Supervisors, it is appropriate to extend the term of office of Ms Petra HIELKEMA as Chairperson for a second five-year term,
