THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION,

Having regard to Regulation (EU) 2022/869 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 May 2022 on guidelines for trans-European energy infrastructure, amending Regulations (EC) No 715/2009, (EU) 2019/942 and (EU) 2019/943 and Directives 2009/73/EC and (EU) 2019/944, and repealing Regulation (EU) No 347/2013 (1), and in particular Article 6(1) thereof,

The Baltic synchronisation project has been continuously supported by the Commission at the highest level as a priority for over 12 years. That project is one of the key areas of work and deliverables of the High-Level Group for the Baltic Energy Market Interconnexion Plan (‘BEMIP’) which has closely supervised its implementation at technical and senior officials’ level since 2015. |

The Baltic synchronisation project is a project of common interest on the Union list of projects of common interest (PCIs) and projects of mutual interest (PMIs) in accordance with Article 3 of Regulation (EU) 2022/869. The investments related to the project feature in cluster 3.3: ‘Integration and synchronisation of the Baltic States’ electricity system with the European networks’. |
(4) |
Given the importance of the project, the Commission designated the European Coordinator for the Baltic Synchronisation project by Decision (EU) 2024/3223 (2). |
(5) |
In order to ensure that the Commission can continue to provide the necessary support to the Member States and project promoters concerned, it is necessary to renew the mandate of the dedicated European Coordinator for the Baltic synchronisation project for one year. |
(6) |
The person designated by Decision (EU) 2024/3223, Ms Catharina Sikow-Magny, has delivered a satisfactory performance during her current mandate. |
(7) |
In accordance with Article 6(1) of Regulation (EU) 2022/869, the Member States concerned with the Baltic synchronisation, namely Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, have been consulted on and have expressed their agreement to the renewal of the mandate of the current European Coordinator Ms Catharina Sikow-Magny. |
(8) |
In the context of the approaching end of mandate of the current European Coordinator and the need to ensure continuity, this Decision should enter into force on the day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. |
