Pursuant to Article 300(3) of the Treaty, the Committee of the Regions is to consist of representatives of regional and local bodies who either hold a regional or local authority electoral mandate or are politically accountable to an elected assembly.

On 10 December 2019, the Council adopted Decision (EU) 2019/2157 (2), appointing the members and alternate members of the Committee of the Regions for the period from 26 January 2020 to 25 January 2025. On 24 April 2020 the Council adopted Decision (EU) 2020/577 (3) appointing two alternate members, proposed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, of the Committee of the Regions. On 29 April 2021 the Council adopted Decision (EU) 2021/721 (4) appointing a member and an alternate member, proposed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, of the Committee of the Regions. On 20 December 2021 the Council adopted Decision (EU) 2021/2294 (5) appointing a member and an alternate member, proposed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, of the Committee of the Regions. On 21 June 2022, the Council adopted Decision (EU) 2022/1001 (6), appointing a member, proposed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, of the Committee of the Regions.

Five members’ seats on the Committee of the Regions have become vacant following the end of the national mandates on the basis of which Mr Johan HAMSTER, Mr Michiel Alexander RIJSBERMAN, Mr Tjisse STELPSTRA, Mr Yde Johan VAN HIJUM and Ms Ilse ZAAL were proposed for appointment.

Six alternate members’ seats on the Committee of the Regions have become vacant following the resignation of Mr Maarten VAN GAANS-GIJBELS, and the end of the national mandates on the basis of which Ms Jeannette Nicole BALJEU, Mr Johannes Cornelius Gerardus Maria (John) BERENDS, Mr Klaas FOKKINGA, Ms Anna PIJPELINK, Mr Robertus Cornelis Leonardus STRIJK were proposed for appointment.

The Dutch Government has proposed the following representatives of regional bodies who are politically accountable to an elected assembly as members of the Committee of the Regions for the remainder of the current term of office, which runs until 25 January 2025: Mr Rang Friso DOUWSTRA, Gedeputeerde provincie Fryslân (Regional Minister of the Province Fryslân), Ms Johanna Everdina MOL, Gedeputeerde provincie Gelderland (Regional Minister of the Province Gelderland), Ms Willemina Roziena Catharina STERK, Gedeputeerde provincie Zuid-Holland (Regional Minister of the Province Zuid-Holland), Mr Arthur Theodorus Hendrikus VAN DIJK, Commissaris van de Koning provincie Noord-Holland (King’s Commissioner Province Noord-Holland) and Ms Mariette Elsbeth VAN LEEUWEN Gedeputeerde provincie Zuid-Holland (Regional Minister of the Province Zuid-Holland).
