The publication of reference amounts for the crossing of the external borders, as referred to in Article 6(4) of Regulation (EU) 2016/399 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2016 on a Union Code on the rules governing the movement of persons across borders (Schengen Borders Code) (2), is based on the information communicated by the Member States to the Commission in conformity with Article 39 of the Schengen Borders Code.
In addition to the publication in the Official Journal, a regular update is available on the website of the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs.
REFERENCE AMOUNTS REQUIRED FOR THE CROSSING OF THE EXTERNAL BORDER FIXED BY NATIONAL AUTHORITIES
LATVIA

In accordance with the Law on immigration, for a foreign national to be able to enter and stay in the Republic of Latvia they must prove that they have the necessary means of subsistence to cover their entire stay in the Republic of Latvia and other Schengen Agreement member countries (where the trip also includes travel to other Schengen countries) as well as the cost of their return trip (or onward trip to another country).
The requisite amount of financial resources, in accordance with Cabinet Regulation No 225, is as follows:

a minimum of EUR 14 per day of stay, where the scheduled stay in the Republic of Latvia does not exceed 30 days; |
— |
no less than the minimum monthly wage (EUR 700), where the scheduled stay in Latvia exceeds 30 days; |
— |
for foreign nationals wishing to obtain a visa and the right to work, information on the level of remuneration can be found on the website of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs at https://www.pmlp.gov.lv/lv/finansu-lidzekli). |
Where it is indicated in the electronic information system (the register of invitations) and/or on the form ‘ Ielūgums vīzas pieprasīšanai / Invitation for requesting a visa’ approved by the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs that the person issuing the invitation will cover the expenses relating to the foreign national’s entry and stay in the Republic of Latvia, the foreign national need not submit documents proving the availability of the necessary financial means of subsistence.
If necessary, the foreign national must prove that they have sufficient financial resources to pay for the planned accommodation and/or, if travelling by private vehicle, sufficient financial resources to purchase the fuel needed for the journey.
