EU–Thailand Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation

KEY POINTS

The agreement is divided into titles covering different areas of cooperation.

• Peace and security with particular emphasis on combating:
  • the proliferation and delivery of weapons of mass destruction;
  • the illicit trade in small and light weapons;
  • serious crimes of international importance;
  • terrorism.
• Bilateral, regional and international cooperation with a focus on cooperation and exchanges of views in international forums and organisations such as the United Nations and in EU–-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) relations.
• Trade and investment issues such as:
  • sustainable food systems,
  • technical barriers to trade,
  • competition policy,
  • intellectual property rights.
• Freedom, security and justice covering issues such as:
  • the rule of law,
  • gender equality and the empowerment of women,
  • migration,
  • combating organised crime and corruption.
• Cooperation in other sectors including:
  • human rights,
  • science, technology and innovation,
  • the environment and natural resources, and climate change,
  • ocean governance.

A joint committee, with representatives of both parties, oversees the implementation of the agreement and the fulfilment of its objectives.
