European Judicial Network (EJN)

The EJN is a network of national contact points designated by the respective European Union Member States to facilitate judicial cooperation in criminal matters. The EJN contact points support investigations by helping to identify the competent authorities and provide support with legal and practical advice in cross-border investigations. Additionally, they exchange best practices, foster the strengthening of mutual trust and provide and support training sessions on judicial cooperation.

The EJN was created by Joint Action 98/428/JHA of 29 June 1998, which was later replaced by Council Decision 2008/976/JHA.

The EJN Secretariat is responsible for the administration of the EJN. It is located at the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust).

The EJN in criminal matters served as a model for the European Judicial Network in civil and commercial matters, set up by Council Decision 2001/470/EC.
