COMMON POSITION of 15 September 1997 defined by the Council on the basis of Article J.2 of the Treaty on European Union, on restrictive measures to be taken against persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina acting against the peace agreements (97/625/CFSP)

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,

Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article J.2 thereof,

Whereas the European Union is committed to full implementation of the peace agreements for Bosnia and Herzegovina signed in Paris on 14 December 1995;

Whereas the international community remains determined to take any measure necessary to penalize the parties responsible for failure to comply with the commitments entered into and deadlines agreed at the ministerial conference of the Peace Implementation Council at Sintra on 30 May 1997;

Whereas the Council, taking account of the recommendations of the High Representative, considers that persons acting against the spirit of the peace agreements should be banned from travelling to the territories of the Member States of the European Union;

Whereas, in these circumstances, the Council reserves the right to revise or extend the list of persons covered by this common position,

HAS DEFINED THIS COMMON POSITION:

1. The persons listed in the Annex shall be reported as not to be permitted entry to the territories of the Member States. The list may be revised, in particular in the light of fresh recommendations by the High Representative.

2. Member States shall take all measures necessary to give effect to the provisions referred to in point 1 as from the date on which this common position is defined.

3. This common position shall be published in the Official Journal.
